I have been shocked watching Jack Ketchum’ film yesterday and wanted to know more about the true story. I am in pain and cannot understand how such tragedies can happen in our world. My girlfriend had told me about the movie and had also swore to me that shed never watch it again. Shes a metal chick who absolutely loves a great horror film so when I heard her say she'd never watch this movie again your damn right i hopped all over it. The degree of insanity that these children put up with is not only baffling how no one caught on, but beyoooooond despicable, especially to sylvia. Been reading up on her and her relatives for a few days now, im absolutely drop jaw speechless about it all, but what really is truly disgusting about it all. Is how after this woman was sentenced to life, all of her fellow inmates referred to her as "mom" im sorry but fuck that, who would ever reffer to such a parasitic human being with a term of endearment such as "mom", but now im sure she understands the old saying... an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Sylvia, rest in peace, I will continue researching you, your family, and if i could ever find where your resting place is. I will make sure to go there at some point and pay my respects. For any childs suffering shall never go unheard again. thanks for making this page.

Ok, I have just read over 1000 pages. Yes I read the entire court transcript. I know that the Baniszewski family will rot in hell for what they did to Sylvia & Jenny. They disgust me.
Why did the other children not say anything to anyone? Even the Mr. Softee man could have done something. A teacher. The neighbor that was an officer at the school, anyone? I am sure they were scared of that evil bag Gertie, but I think I would have chanced it. Honestly, I know I would have. My prayers go out to all of the Likens family and friends. Heart wrenching. I would like 10 minutes with old, fat and ugly Paula. I would pay to get to kick her ass.

I really liked your site I am astounded that these people try to defend any of those children present during that awful time. My mother tells a story of when I was 4 and came home in tears because a neighborhood boy killed a baby bird. Now tell me that none of those children could have relayed what was happening in that household to a teacher, a policeman, their parents, a clergyman, they certainly did not try very hard to get her any help I would have screamed and cried until someone helped that girl. If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem everyone who was involved should have been charged no exceptions except the infant he is the only one I would say has an excuse.

It's a historic tragedy that mankind shall learn from it and never ever repeat it. It's heartbreaking that we can't bring Sylvia back but the best we can do is honor her by helping the abused children we know about and spreading awareness.

I've been profoundly disturbed by Sylvia's story. As with many on this forum, it leaves me astounded at the cruelty of some people. I can't understand how a person can be tortured and those inflicting it don't stop to realize what they're doing. This story makes me even more determined that my child will grow up knowing right from wrong and showing empathy for others. I hope to make my little piece of the world right.

This case Just reminded me how cruel and heartless the world can be,I wish I lived back then and could do something to help that poor girl with that happy innocent smile.Sometimes I wish god did exist and she would have been In heaven or if Time machine did exist but it doesn't (To be honest this case brought me into tears and depression every time I look at Sylvia likens photo's...)

I am grateful that there are people who are defending Sylvia Likens when everyone in her day miserably let her down - her parents, the justice system of Indiana, neighbors, churches, and siblings. I am sick when I read the updated page on this site about where the perpetrators are today and what sentences they served! I kept reading "charges dropped", "charges dropped", "charges dropped", "served only 2 years", "served only 2 years", etc.!!!!! I am livid! I am a survivor of sadistic child abuse myself,and now I am an older adult. This story is close to my heart just as Dave Pelzer story is also close to my heart. I have read all of his books. However, the torture and murder of this sweet child will be paid for one day. For the perpetrators who are living in peace today with no one bothering them - know this - pay day is someday!!! Thank you whoever started this memorial and tribute to this innocent, vulnerable, and defenseless child called Sylvia.
